Shimizudani Muku Tree

This tree is said to be nearly 300 years old and was named after the court noble Shimizudani who lived nearby. The radical samurai Kijima Matabee died in a battle near this tree during the Kimmon incident in 1864.

このムクの木は木の当りに住んだ清水谷家から「清水谷家の椋」と名づけられた。1864年の禁門の変で来島又兵衛という長州藩士が討死したと言われている。
